Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines. Crohn’s primarily causes ulcerations (breaks in the lining) of the small and large intestines but can affect the digestive system anywhere from the mouth to the anus. It causes a wide variety of symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhoea (even bloody if inflammation is severe), vomiting, weight loss, anaemia and fever. Crohn’s may also cause complications outside the gastrointestinal tract such as skin rashes, arthritis, inflammation of the eye, tiredness, and lack of concentration.
Conventional medicine suggests there is no cure to Crohn’s, this is something we would certainly argue. Simply put, there is an issue with the digestive system, this causes a multitude of other symptoms. Once the digestive system is balanced by following the treatment plan below, all symptoms are eradicated.
Ayurvedic theory suggests that the primary cause of Crohn’s disease are :
Poor digestion (Mandagi), poor nutrition, post diarrhoea, irritable bowels.
Our Ayurvedic Doctor would prescribe the following treatment plan during a consultation:
- Nutritional changes
- Medicated herbs
- Agni Deepana (improving the appetite)
- Ama Pachana (measure to digest the Ama)
- Strengthening Grahani (gastrointestinal system)
- Panchakarma therapies (Basti, Abhyanga, Shirodhara, Pinda Sweda)
- Other internal medications
- Advice about lifestyle changes
